Sorry I haven’t been posting as much. Running a drive-in has been taking up most of my time. Thinking about doing a Tumblr page for that part of my life.

A quick Tumblr announcement for you folks. I took a trip to Los Angeles a couple weeks ago for a job interview. I was hired. Starting last week I began transitioning into my new role as the general manager/operator of the Starlight Six Drive-In Theatres here in Atlanta. Christina (tumblr: deathpunkbaby) and I will be moving into a house on the lot on May 1st. We are both totally excited about this new chapter in our lives.
Plans are already in the works for the annual Rock and Roll Monsterbash on June 2! A full day of music and classic horror flicks at the Six. C’mon out and join us.

My wife used to live down the street from this spot when we lived in NYC. We would catch the bus right there.

This FAQ is super misleading. Question number 5 there is kinda fucked up. “Do I get a choice?” Well yea… You get a choice. But if you pick anything but HFR its the wrong choice.
I have NEVER seen anything look so fucking good on a movie screen before. When I watch Blu Ray in my house with Surround sound and the Motion Flow on my TV bumped to max, its still nowhere close. HFR is on some straight up next level shit. I will no longer take movies seriously if they are even released in other formats. So called “traditional” format might as well be a fucking VHS player plugged into a tube (or “fatty”) TV with Mono sound. My man PJ knocked it out of the fucking park. I kept asked my friends “Yo, I’m not crazy for buying these tickets right? Like you can see a difference here?” And they thought I was being sarcastic. It’s like night and day, I fucking swear.
As for the movie itself… I don’t even know where to start. Go see that shit. The HFR version. After I see that shit about 4 more times I’ll be able to say with much more certainty if it is, in fact, the G.O.A.T. As of now, signs point to yes.
It is rare that I disagree with my best pal Alan on the subject of movies, but I gotta comment on this one.
There is a quality to 35mm film prints that cannot be matched or exceeded by digital/HD formats.
I feel that 35mm has a depth and feel that is lost in digitally filmed features. High definition does not necessarily mean “better”. HD, while great in some applications (documentary, wildlife cinematography, sports), takes away from a film in that it plasticizes or makes things actually seem “less real”. A well-written and performed scene can be made to look like a soap opera.
This is only my opinion, of course. I spend most of my moviegoing time at the Starlight Six Drive-In and the Plaza Theatre here in Atlanta. Both are staunch advocates of the 35mm print.
Peter Jackson did some of his best work (again, my opinion) in the 16 and 35mm formats (Brain Dead/Dead Alive, Bad Taste), and I understand that he likes to depict a massive scope in his films, but I don’t think this HFR thing is the way to go.

I want this so bad, but I’m pretty sure its a modern one-off (art project). Shoot me a message if you know better.
